Эта фраза вошла в употребление в 1960-х гг. и относилась к практике получения исключительных прав на публикацию интересной статьи, сенсационной истории, за которые предлагались крупные суммы денег тому, кто мог предоставить нужную информацию. Обычно в таких случаях не учитывались моральные или этические аспекты.
